Discover the Magic of P & J’s Plantiques

Nestled along the Muskegon River just South of Big Rapids P & J’s Plantiques is a distinct attraction. As you come upon the shop across from Richard Ulrich Park at Roger’s Dam you are greeted by a colorful explosion full of repurposed metal works redesigned as lawn decorations, pumpkins and Halloween decorations, an eclectic vibe of greenery and machinery that immediately draws you in.

The owners, Patrick Aymar and Jeffrey Cauffman, are just as colorful as the storefront they have owned and operated for over 20 years. Their vibrant energy is contagious as is their love for gardening and art. But perhaps the thing they are most passionate about is giving people an anomalous experience.

Your experience begins with being greeted by Louie and Alfie, a beagle, and a husky/lab mix (AND THE BESTEST BOYS). Their friendliness is only rivaled by their owners and if you’re a dog lover, they add a sweet bonus to your visit. The shop is filled with treasures, from vintage glassware to one-of-a-kind art and pottery.

Behind the storefront is the nursery. In the summer you will find it filled with a beautiful array of flowers and greenery.  For the novice gardeners, like me, they also have a whole greenhouse of succulents. If you are feeling ambitious, Patrick assures me with their continued after-sale support they offer their consumers – even you can grow a stunning garden.

After your visit, you’ll leave with more than just a plant or two; you’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for the beautifully bizarre and maybe a cool new story or two to tell.

One thing is for certain, as Patrick says, “If you don’t buy anything you are not just wasting time you are having an experience.”
