On Monday, May 30, multiple events will be held throughout the City of Big Rapids. AMVETS Post 1941 and American Legion Post 98 will be hosting the ceremonies throughout the city, starting at 10:00am at the Mecosta County Courthouse, 400 Elm St.

Ceremony starts at the Mecosta County Courthouse because the courthouse has the memorial for those who died in combat through World War I, World War II, Vietnam War and Desert Storm. It will feature the American Legion Post 98’s honor guard and the Big Rapids High School band.

From there, the procession will march down Michigan Avenue to Mitchell Creek, where there will be a memorial for those in the Navy who were lost at sea.

The procession will then cross the highway to Highlandview cemetery, 607 W Bellevue St, where a similar ceremony to what was held at the courthouse will be held at Highlandview ceremony. There will be over 800 flags placed at the gravesite of Veterans this Memorial Day at Highlandview Cemetery.
