Join iconographer Carolyn Rock for a 3-hour workshop exploring the rich history, theology, and meaning of Eastern Orthodox Icons.

This engaging workshop will:

  • Delve into the history and significance of Icons: Explore their role in early Christianity and their enduring impact on art and spirituality.
  • Showcase authentic Icons: Examine a collection of original Icons, learning about their unique attributes and the symbolism they convey.
  • Uncover the iconography process: Gain insight into the intricate techniques and steps involved in creating an Icon.
  • Engage in hands-on activities: Participate in a practical exercise, experiencing firsthand some of the steps used in Icon creation.

Participants will gain:

  • A deeper appreciation for the history and artistry of Icons.
  • New insights into the theological and spiritual significance of these sacred images.
  • A newfound ability to perceive the meaning of Icons both artistically and theologically.

About Carolyn Rock:

Carolyn Rock is a member of the Grand Valley Artists group in Grand Rapids. Her iconographic works grace homes and chapels from Michigan to West Virginia, and her artwork has been featured in four ArtPrize exhibitions.
