The Smithsonian exhibit, Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, explores various facets of democracy and citizenship The exhibit will explore the historical principles that inspired the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, the struggle for all citizens to gain the right to vote, the machinery of democracy and the political parties at work, the right to assemble and protest, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. The exhibit will explore how those views of rights and responsibilities have shaped our national identity and our complex national story.
